Jamala Madikwe gently embraces the lay of the land with five freestanding villas. Each slice of paradise offers superlative luxury and intimate privacy combined with extravagant outdoor facilities which include individual rim-flow pools and salas, expansive wooden decks and private outdoor showers.
Where rugged landscapes soften to the blush of the African dawn. The malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve is a 75 000 ha region of untamed beauty. A natural splendour located in South Africa’s North West province. This wild terrain boasts a tapestry of awe-inspiring landscapes that encompass vast open plains, dense bushveld and towering rocky peaks. All of which offers sanctuary to a kaleidoscope of creatures, including the ‘super seven’.
The area where Madikwe Game Reserve stands today was previously farming land, used for farming cattle and arable agriculture. The farming culture in the area was largely a failure, due to bad farming practises and mismanagement. Once the vegetation had degraded to unusable levels, the land was taken from the existing farmers and given to new developments including Community Lodges which are run by local villages. The profits from these community lodges are then used to uplift the local communities.
Madikwe is an ancient land where nature plays out her age-old theatre of life and death between hunter and hunted. Well positioned within the reserve’s treasure trove of animals, Jamala Madikwe reverberates with the call of birds and impish Vervet monkeys. Game Experiences: Morning and evening game drives, Game viewing from the Jamala Madikwe deck and watchtower, Over 300 Bird species, Big 5 game viewing and Highly endangered African Wild Dog sightings.

Jamala Madikwe Reviews
“There are 10 cottages/villas on the property. All are lovely and reached by a smooth concrete path that is well lit. This was my first stop on a second trip to south africa. It was my intention to recuperate from the long flight. Little did I know that it would be one of the most wonderful parts of my journey. I would sit down for breakfast and find myself still there at noon watching the action at the waterhole. We had a jeep and a ranger which my son enjoyed, but I was entranced by the “sofa safari”. At one time there were at least 35 elephants drinking and playing at the water hole; zebras galonre and giraffe and antelope. Nico Verster is a genius in the kitchen and both he and Rodney Steyn make the place a joy with a gift of genuine warmth. The afternoon teas are absolutely amazing. When you arrive they greet you with a bottle of champagne as if you are a long lost friend. Just writing this review makes me long to go back.” –mikixyz
“Rod, Nico, Daniel and the entire staff were amazing. They made me feel like home. My lodge was personalized with my own letter head and special welcoming. The food was amazing and so well thought out. Our ranger Daniel was so professional and knowledge of the wildlife and game reserve. I’d recommend anyone to go to Jamala!” –Hannah B
“I’ve just returned from my fourth stay at Jamala Madikwe and stayed for a total of 5 nights this time. I always save the best for last on my safaris and this trip was no exception. Jamala Madikwe continues to set the standards for elegance in the African bush. We were a party of 8 and had the lodge exclusively. This is the way to go! It transforms into your home in the bush. The watering hole comes alive throughout the day offering spectacular photographic opportunities. Sofa Safari is the second-best way!! There is a very good reason why Jamala Madikwe has won Best Safari cuisine in Africa for the past several years. Prayer and Bongi, under the grand guidance of Nico, produce mouth watering delicacies from afternoon tea to the gourmet dinners served candlelit in the Boma or the exquisite dining room. The intimacy of Jamala is what makes it so special. Laurence, Precious and Happi are always on hand to cater to your every need and Rod and Nico are the perfect hosts ensuring that your stay is the first of many. Daniel is an extremely apt and knowledgeable ranger who relishes in finding the Big 5 for his guests, the Magnificent 7 if you’re lucky! Jamala Madikwe will continue to be my last stop on any trip to Africa, it is the perfect way to end the perfect holiday. Thank you to my Jamalians and to my home in the bush!!” –Zoe M
